Property abroad. Good news for Mallorca property sellers as tourism increases.

With record numbers in tourism for 2005, Mallorca property is set for a major
property sales increase in 2006 as more and more foreigners contemplate this idyllic
location for their choice as a property abroad.

Although many pessimists predicted doom and gloom at the beginning of last year.
2005 turned out to be a fantastic year for tourism on Mallorca. Many of the
concerns regarding independent travelers, competition from up and coming merging
markets and residential tourism seem unfounded as the summer of 2005 proved that
tourism in the Balearic Islands is more popular than its ever been.

In 2005, the number of visitors to the islands increased by 3.4 per cent to 11.6
million, which is the highest rise in recent years. Tourist numbers had reached
historical figures according to Jaume Matas, the leader of the Balearic Government.
The overall rise in the number of visitors since the bleak year of 2002 is an
encouraging 10 per cent. This can only mean great news for Mallorca property owners
looking to sell their property as a percentage of this new influx of tourism will
lead to more foreigners choosing Mallorca for their property abroad.

Last year saw a rise in the number of cruise ships visiting the islands with more
than 800,000 visitors, over 19 per cent more than in 2004. The amount spent by
tourist\'s reached more than 10 million euros last year, a rise of 6.5 per cent on
2004. Foreign tourists in the Balearic\'s spent a total of 8,520 million euros
according to the Poll of Tourist Spending (EGATUR) carried out by the Institute of
Tourist Studies, which is part of the national Ministry of Industry, Tourism
and Commerce.

The average amount spent per tourist was 913 euros. The fears over a fall in
revenue due to residential tourism were unnecessary also as visitors who stayed in
holiday homes or other types of accommodation spent more than those who stayed in
hotels. The amount spent by the average residential tourist rose by 5.4 per cent in
2005, whilst the amount paid by those staying in hotels rose by 3.7 per cent.

The Balearic\'s were only one of two regions of Spain which saw an increase in
revenue thanks to tourists last year. The other was the Canaries. The government’s
efforts to attract visitors in the low season is paying off also.
