BROWN COLLEGE PROFESSOR QUITS RACE FOR GOVERNOR

Released on = July 21, 2006, 2:09 pm

Press Release Author = Press Dept

Industry = Government

Press Release Summary = Ivy League Professor Dennis Michaud quits race for Rhode
Island Governor, and supports Carcieri

Press Release Body = BROWN PROFESSOR QUITS GOVERNOR RACE
Says “Governor Carcieri is Doing Better”

(Providence, RI, USA) Brown Professor Dennis Michaud, the Rhode Island Republican
Challenger to Governor Don Carcieri announced he would be withdrawing from the race
this morning and would promote Republican Unity.

In a meeting with supporters, a smiling Michaud stated that the Governor was “doing
better” and that their efforts “had been successful in helping focus the Governor on
several important issues like the housing bill”. “I turned the Governor from being
just a fighter into being a fighter AND a lover” he quipped. “The governor
definitely woke up” he added, referring to one of his commercials.

“We have continually gone out of our way NOT to hurt Republican interests or this
governor” Michaud said. “We accomplished a great deal. But our own political
experts now warn that proving we can successfully challenge the signatures and get
on the ballot may not be in the best interest of the Republican party. It might
cause problems for the Governor that we never intended to.”

Later on the WHJJ Arlene Violet show, Michaud made it clear publicly that although
his nomination signatures fell short by 60 or so, his campaign operatives and
attorney were confident they could successfully challenge enough of the
disqualifications to get him on the ballot. “They were sure we would end up with
1,023” he said. “We know we would have been on the ballot.”

“I absolutely support the Governor one hundred percent” Professor Michaud asserted.
“I\'m glad he\'s doing better.”
