Fast food faster - New technology allows customers to pre-order food by mobile phone

food outlets. With several businesses already signed-up, the convenience of
pre-ordering food and avoiding the queues is already gaining ground.

Customers send a text message containing their order to a computer based at the
restaurant. The customer then picks up their order or sits down to dine – without
wasting time waiting to order or for the food to be prepared. It is now possible to
order your morning coffee ahead of time before even setting off for work.

txtNation have enabled softwareforrestaurants.com to use text messaging as an
ordering system across outlets in London, Cardiff, Oxford and increasing numbers of
towns around the UK. Using Global Positioning System (GPS) technology, customers are
alerted to their closest participating restaurant. This is one of the first systems
of its kind in the world, benefiting from txtNation’s experience in handling all
aspects of leading-edge mobile messaging, billing and content.

Existing retailers include an ice cream shop in Oxford, which has since become very
popular among Oxford University students. The company is now looking for other
outlets across the UK as well as major cities in the US. The technology can be used
all over the world and there’s no limit to the number of retailers who can offer the
service to their customers.
