Blinds help Basingstoke and Andover residents go green!

Released on: February 15, 2008, 6:28 am

Press Release Author: Hannah Lane

Industry: Small Business

Press Release Summary: Basingstoke- based, Designer Blinds Direct is releasing a new
range of insulating blinds as part of its green commitment in 2008.

Press Release Body: Windows make up on average 15 to 40 percent of the wall area in
a house, and can therefore allow large heat losses. In the average house, heat lost
through windows can represent up to 37 percent of the total heat lost. This is why
Designer Blinds Direct’s newest addition to its range will be keeping its customers
warm this winter as well as helping them to go green.

The design incorporates a unique hexagonal double cell fabric (that normal blinds
don’t have) that traps air, creating a barrier that prevents heat escaping,
improving the efficiency of any window. The insulating fabric is specifically
designed to look and feel soft as well as acting as a durable barrier.

The family-run business has been working hard to create a sustainable working
environment over the past couple of years. Alan Lane, MD says, “We’ve been working
hard to improve our green status, so introducing this new range of insulating blinds
to our customers seemed like a logical step. People take steps to improve energy
efficiency by regulating thermostats and using energy efficient light bulbs, so why
not take extra steps to insulate windows on top of double glazing?”
