Press Release Summary: Lauds Governor Crist For Suggesting Suspending Gas
TaxSuggests Legislature Should Suspend Gas Tax From Now Through The End Of The Year

Press Release Body: Vero Beach, FL/April 16, 2008 – Charles Celano, M.D., Republican
candidate for State House District 80 praised Governor Charlie Crist for addressing
the issue of rising gas prices that is affecting all Floridians and strongly
endorsed the Governor’s suggestion that the state gas tax be suspended. The
temporary suspension of the state gas tax would bring immediate relief to Florida
families and businesses who are being crippled by the rising cost of gas at the
pump. Dr. Celano suggested that the State Legislature suspend the state gas tax from
now until the end of the year.

“Families and businesses throughout Florida are being affected by the daily cost of
gas at the pump,” said Dr. Celano. “Our economy is being crippled by the cost of gas
as businesses are curtailing operations, families are curtailing shopping because of
the price of gas, and tourists are canceling Florida trips because of the cost of
gas. Suspending the state gas tax for the remainder of the year will bring immediate
relief to Floridians and help stimulate the economy. I hope Representative Mayfield
and Senator Haridopolos will act upon this immediately and that my opponent will
join me in supporting this.”

The state gas tax has been suspended in the past by the State Legislature. Dr.
Celano’s position is consistent with his strong stand against new taxes. He was the
first candidate in the State House District 80 race to sign the Americans for Tax
Reform’s no new tax pledge and challenged his opponent to sign it after she proposed
raising the state sales tax.

A graduate of State University of New York at Stony Brook, Dr. Celano earned his
medical degree at the University of Noreste. He completed his cardiology training at
University of Maryland Hospital in Baltimore. Like many, he was attracted to the
natural beauties of the Treasure Coast. He has served as Chief of Staff at Indian
River Memorial Hospital, Chairman of the Cardiology Department at Indian River
Memorial Hospital and is currently Medical Director of the Cardiac Rehabilitation
Program at IRMC-Duke Heart Center. He also serves as a liaison to the Duke
University Medical System and the Indian River Memorial Hospital open heart program.
He is a proud member of the Florida Medical Association, Indian River County Medical
Society, American College of Healthcare Executives, and Fellow of the American
College of Cardiology. Earning an MBA from Nova Southeastern University, Dr. Celano
has created several businesses on the Treasure Coast.
