`Breathe Easy Play Hard` Breathe Easy Play Hard`s Dr Janis Schaeffer Talks About Air Quality and Asthma on CNN

Released on: August 7, 2008, 6:19 pm

Press Release Author: Janis Schaeffer, M.D., PC

Industry: Healthcare

Press Release Summary: Dr. Janis Schaeffer, renowned pediatric pulmonologist, has
created an innovative asthma awareness initiative called Breathe Easy Play Hard
(http://www.beph.com/), where she aims to educate, inform and inspire young people,
parents, coaches, teachers, peers and physicians to effectively meet the challenges
and obstacles presented by asthma.

Press Release Body: New York, NY (August 8, 2008) – Pediatric pulmonologist Dr.
Janis I. Schaeffer, founder of the Breathe Easy Play Hard Foundation, spoke about
the chronic condition of asthma and the various air quality factors that may
dramatically affect short-term health and athletic performance in a Thursday, June
19, 2008 live interview that aired on Cable News Network (CNN) International.

Visit www.BEPH.com to watch this great interview of Janis Schaeffer on CNN.

The interview with Dr. Schaeffer, a sports and asthma specialist with elite
competitive young athletes, was part of a broader CNN news story that served as a
run-up to the 2008 Beijing Olympics. Precautions that the Chinese government has
been taking to mitigate pollution factors that affect air quality were discussed,
along with the training challenges for Olympic athletes with asthma in an expected
environment of extreme haze, heat and humidity. Dr. Schaeffer offered tips on what
athletes can do to minimize health risks and maximize performance.

In response to a concluding question about the role the Olympics play in inspiring
young athletes with asthma, Dr. Schaeffer concluded that the Breathe Easy Play Hard
message is that a competitor should always be prepared for the worst, hope for the
best—and, from an early age, learn everything there is to know about the opponent,
in this case, asthma.
