Health Care Out of Control Drug Costs

Released on: October 25, 2008, 1:05 am

Press Release Author: Texas Health & Life

Industry: Healthcare

Press Release Summary: Out of control health care costs are the results of many
factors, however the biggest one is the high price of drugs.

Press Release Body: Health care costs make the news daily. This is not rocket
science to note the trend in health care rather than being towards caring for people
by offering reasonably priced health care insurance, the costs are so prohibitive
many Americans do not have health insurance.

Pundits think it is the cost of treatment that drives prices up. It is in part, but
the major culprits are drug manufacturers. Take a look at Part D drug coverage
prices and the prices for drugs will wake people up to the high cost of health care.

People are forking out more cash for drugs because they are asking for and buying
brand name drugs. There is no reason to do this when generic drugs will do the same
job. Drug companies have wised up over the years and have promoted their new drugs
directly to the consumer. The consumer now drives the drug manufacturing market.

When a new drug hits the market and people are inundated with a barrage of
advertising about this drug being better than ever before they head straight to
their family doctor and demand to try that drug for their condition.

People are buying brand name X drug that is supposedly new and improved. However, in
more and more cases, the so-called new and improved drug is actually the same drug
as the old one. The drug company just made it into an extended release form or
blended it with another drug.

This kind of manipulation of drugs and misleading marketing is done because drug
manufacturers need to sustain profit levels. If a drug company doesn't have another
new drug to develop and promote, their bottom line suffers. This takes advantage of
consumers.

Drug companies also interfere in the process for other manufacturers to make and
sell generic versions of their original drugs. All this spells "EXPENSIVE." Mix this
with the fact that it is very difficult to get lower cost drugs from Canada and
there is a recipe for a health care system driven by profit hungry drug companies.

To save money on health care costs, demand generic drugs.
